2020 Race held virtually due to COVID-19 pandemic.

2019 Leonard Korir, U.S. Olympian,  wins the New Haven 20K for the third time.

2016 Addition of the half marathon and half marathon 2-person relay.

2015 7 former U.S. Olympians and 7 past USA 20K Champions compete in the 20K.

2014  Additional 5K start line added to reduce start line congestion.

2013 Crowd of over 7,000 runners. A new race logo and tech shirt design were introduced to participants approval.

2012 35th Anniversary brings a new, flatter 20K course and a crowd of nearly 7,000 runners.

2011 Record crowd of nearly 7,000 runners. Three-time U.S. Olympian Abdi Abdirahman returns as race champion.

2009 Runner’s World “Race of the Month” 9/09, 45 year old Colleen DeReuck wins race and sets American 20K Masters Record.

2007 30th Anniversary draws a record crowd of over 5,000 runners.

2004 Ryan Shay and Turena Johnson Lane each won their first 20K National Championship.

2003 Meb Keflezighi and Marla Runyan, two New Haven newcomers, added a pair of American records to the race’s string of marks.

2002 New Haven Road Race celebrates its 25th year. Dan Browne and Colleen DeReuck win 20K National Championships. Record crowd of nearly 5,000 runners.

2001 Dan Browne and Milena Glusac win Men’s and Women’s 20K National Championships. First time the New Haven Road Race hosts the US Women’s National 20K Championship.

2000 Closest race in history as William Kiptum outkicks Joe Kamau by 2/10 of a second. Ludmilia Petrova bests world record holder Colleen DeReuck.

1999 Nationally televised as ESPN’s Race of the Month. Paul Pilkington sets American 20K Masters Record.

1998 World Records set by Khalid Khannouchi and Colleen De Reuck. Selected as “Race of the Year” by New England Runner. Terrence Mahon wins Men’s National Championship Record. Record crowd of nearly 5,000 runners.

1997 U.S. Olympian Anne Marie Lauck wins women’s race. John Kagwe wins the men’s race and then wins the New York City Marathon. Keith Andersen sets men’s master 20K world record.

1996 Men’s National 20K Championship won by Joe LeMay. Tatiana Pozdniakova set women’s masters 20K record. Bands and spirit contest add to runners enjoyment on race course.

1995 Gilbert Rutto runs fastest 20K ever run in U.S. Trina Painter sets women’s American 20K record.

1993 to present New Haven Road Race becomes the Men’s National 20K Championship.

1993 Men’s National 20K Championship won by Keith Brantly. Field again over 4,000 runners. Race becomes largest 20K in the United States.

1992 Masters (runners over 40) National 20K Championship. Bill Rodgers and Carol McLatchie set American Masters records. Race field surpasses 4,000 runners. Estimated spectators 20,000. Inaugural 1/2 mile Children’s Run – has over 300 kids. Jill Hunter sets World 20K Road Record.

1992 to present One of Country’s Top Road Races – Runner’s World Magazine.

1991 Race field surpasses 3,000 runners.

1990 to present Initiated T-shirt contest – received numerous awards for best road race t-shirt. Appeared on ESPN’s Running & Racing numerous times. Inaugural pre-race pasta dinner has over 150 guests. Connecticut Championship 20K Race.

1989 to present Hired John Bysiewicz to be the full-time director.

1989 Michele Cuke sets American 20K record.

1987 Inaugural 5K won by Bill Rodgers.

1982 Greg Meyer sets course record of 58:26.

1978 Over 1,200 runners compete in inaugural New Haven 20K Road Race won by Bill Rodgers.
